The Power of on-time Renewals

Lt. Governor Marketing, District 22

You’ve heard about the requirement to have semi-annual renewals submitted to Toastmasters International by 1 October, 2009. If you are a club treasurer, you know this from your training and your When you are the Treasurer manual. There are a number of advantages to getting those dues in today:

1. You’re done! This is the best (personal) reason.
2. You can report to your club’s executive council the completion of the dues submission.
3. You save yourself the additional e-mails and calls from your Area Governor to follow-up.
4. Most importantly – You support your members in their continued success.

Do you have members that are on the fence, or just running late with their checks? If so, here is where a little extra effort can pay off big for you and your club:

Note: The Treasurer, VP of Membership, and President can all work to support this effort.
First – make direct “Talk to the Human” contact. E-mail is a good primer, but phone them today to remind them to bring their checkbook.
Second – for those on the fence: Remind them of the advantages of membership. Feel free to use the theme:  Confidence. Leadership. Service.
Third – don’t neglect the personal touch – “We want you to stay”. It’s important for this to not only sound sincere, but to be sincere.

Finally, it’s important that we care about our fellow members, and that we show it. You’re going to have members who’s schedules don’t work with your club meetings any more, or have been laid-off from your company. Take an extra minute to suggest some community clubs in the area, especially for those laid-off members. Networking is one of the most powerful tools they can have at this time (trust me, I was there myself this year). Look at the Find a club function on TI’s website, and do a search by zip code. Do this not only to show that you care, but because you do care.

As of 28 September , TI’s reporting function shows that 47 of our 104 clubs have met the time requirement, with just 2 days to go. Note: 19 of those clubs met the district challenge to submit their dues by 15 September. Also worthy of note, two of our Areas have all of their clubs showing initial dues submission: T12 andR63. There’s still 2 days left to meet this challenge.

We’re at a critical time in our economy, where every extra skill and experience can help us be not only more successful, but frankly help us to stay employed. Help your fellow club members to see the advantage of continued membership in Toastmasters, keep your club strong, and get those Dues in today!
