Here is a list of coming events. All events are open to all members of District 22.

Train the Trainer - December 17 we will hold our first Super Saturday in the KC Metro. Part of the Success/Communication Series, this educational workshop teaches participants how to develop and present training programs – it’s a great program for anyone presenting training sessions, and for everyone training at our winter TLIs!! This session will be presented from 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Shawnee Library, 13811 Johnson Dr. Shawnee, KS 66216. Please RSVP to David Antalick at dantalick@gmail.com so he knows you’ll be there.

World Champion Event – January 5, 2012 we will host 2001 World Champion of Public Speaking Darren LaCroix. Darren is in town for some other events, and has offered to present one of his popular session for us. Details wil be finalized shortly, and we will update this post then.

Working in the Team Environment - Februrary 11 we will hold our next Super Saturday, and the first in Topeka. Part of the Success/Leadership Series, this workshop helps participants learn to use leadership skills as they pertain to working with and leading teams – it’s a great program for anyone leading teams in a volunteer envirnment, or at work. Detail on the location will be avaiolable soon.

Toastmasters Hat Tricks To Date

Since July 1, four Toastmasters have earned District 22′s Hat Trick recognition, having completed three different Toastmasters educational awards in the same track.

The recognition for achieving this milestone during the Toastmasters year is…a hat! Each Toastmaster who completes a “Toastmasters Hat Trick” will receive the Toastmasters ball cap pictured above (one award per Toastmaster per year).

Triple Crown Winners To Date

Since July 1, seven Toastmasters in District 22 have earned Triple Crown pins, having completed three different Toastmasters educational awards. Each Toastmaster who completes three different awards will receive the beautiful pin pictured above, designed by our own Lieutenant Governor-Marketing, Martha Hoffman. Up to three pins can be earned by a Toastmaster during the year (completion of a HPL project counts as the ninth “award,” but only when earning your third pin).

Individual Goal Getters To Date

As of Friday, December 2, 120 Toastmasters in District 22 have completed a total of 161 educational awards. Each of these Toastmasters will be recognized during our upcoming Winter Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) sessions as an individual Goal Getter, and will be presented with a Goal Getter ribbon to attach to their Toastmasters badge.

To qualify for your own Goal Getter ribbon, you just need to complete one or more Toastmasters educational awards, and make sure your Vice President-Education submits it to TI on or before January 10, 2012 (in order to appear on the next day’s Educational Achievements Report, which is available on TI’s District Performance Reports page).

In addition, seven members have completed HPL Projects so far this year.

New Training Incentive

We’re happy to announce that a new training incentive will be offered during the coming months.

Each club that has all seven officers trained during both the Winter 2012 (January 14-February 18) and Summer 2012 (June 2 – 25) TLI “seasons” will receive a complete Club Officer Pin Set (Toastmasters Item 5801Z).

To qualify for this valuable incentive, officers must attend one of the regularly scheduled TLI sessions in Wichita, Topeka, Springfield, or the Kansas City metro area, or the “TLI Lite” in Salina. Attendance at make-up training events will not qualify for this incentive.

So…make sure all of your club officer positions are filled for this year and next, and remind each officer to plan on attending at least one TLI session each time.

UPDATE: Winter TLI Schedule Finalized

The Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) schedule for Winter 2012 has been finalized, and your Education and Training team is working to bring you a rewarding and enjoyable training experience. In addition to the schedule for the upcoming TLIs, we’re also happy to announce that all four TLI Coordinator roles are now filled.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to changes in the facility’s availability, the date for the Liberty TLI has been changed from that provided in the District calendars at the Summer TLIs. All other dates are as tentatively published in that calendar.

UPDATE: A “TLI Lite” session has been added in Salina, Kansas, on Saturday, January 21.

As in the past, a “Season Pass” is $3.00 per person, or clubs can pay $15.00 in advance for an unlimited number of officers and members to attend. Please note that club registration fees will not be accepted at the door, and must be received prior to the TLI event. Club registrations (payable to “Toastmasters District 22″) can be mailed to LGET John DiLeo at the following address:

Does your club have an awesome newsletter? Have you seen another club that has an awesome newsletter? The District 22 Newsletter Contest has been extended until December 18, 2011.

My challenge to you is enter your club newsletter in the contest. Help us showcase the best in District 22! Also, you can let me know if you have seen an awesome newsletter in another club in our District. I will gladly reach out to those clubs and personally invite them to enter their newsletter for the contest!

Clubs entering the contest must publish a minimum or two newsletters by December 16, 2011, but only one should be submitted for consideration in the contest. To participate, please email the newsletter (PDF please) to the District PRO (premier.sharla@yahoo.com) by December 18, 2011. Email must include the name and contact information of the Editor(s) of the newsletter, as well as, the name and club number the newsletter represents.

Judging Criteria:

Your newsletter must clearly indicate which club, area or division it represents; date published in the form of month and year, and prominently list the name and contact information to whom potential members can contact, as well as, the name of the Editor(s).
Be composed of substantially original material submitted by members in good standing. Any items that are reprinted from other sources must be cited. Reprinted items include, but are not limited to: articles, photographs, graphics, quotes, cartoons, etc. Judges reserve the right to disqualify any entry.
Be a minimum of 2 single-sided pages in length.
Newsletter should be informative and entertaining while being comprised with proper sentence structure, spelling, punctuation and grammar.
Content must be educational and focused on promoting and enhancing Toastmaster-related events, members and accomplishments made by the club members in the club, area and division level.

Reach out and bring back your friends

Member Survey:

Has your club lost some members? How many?
- Let’s look and see who wants to rejoin.
- Who can call each member? You, Club Presidents, VP-Ed, VP-Membership?

Find out why did they not renew and in what areas the problems might be.
- Let’s find out if they just wanted a personal invitation.
- Do they need help taking the next step with speaking?
- Have they changed jobs?
- Can we refer them to another club?
- Is it strictly financial?

Current members or members who recently dropped out are the best source of new members for our clubs. Sometimes a member drops out because of real issues, like a job change with a new schedule. Sometimes, a member just gets stuck and decides it’s time to quit. If we can talk with them and discover the obstacle, then we may be able to help them move the obstacle out of the way. Either way, we can learn about them and the club with our survey.
